Naperville Police Investigate Vehicle Discovered Submerged in Lake
The following is a joint statement from the Naperville Police Department and the Berwyn Police Department.
On Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, just before 11 a.m., divers from the Naperville Fire Department were conducting training exercises in Lake Osborne, located just south of the Naperville Public Safety Campus on Aurora Avenue, when they discovered a submerged vehicle in the southwest portion of the lake.
Naperville Police officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians were called to the scene to assist with the recovery of the vehicle and initiate an investigation. At approximately 3:40 p.m., the vehicle was removed from the lake and identified as a 1992 Nissan Maxima.
Using the vehicle’s older license plate number, investigators determined that the vehicle was connected to an ongoing Berwyn Police Department investigation into the disappearance of Hiep Luu, who was reported missing in 2003. Suspected human remains were located inside the vehicle but have not yet been identified. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office was called to assist with the investigation and will handle identification of the deceased.
Naperville Police divers returned to the scene today, Sept. 26, to continue the search for additional evidence.
The death investigation is being led by the Naperville Police Department in cooperation with the Berwyn Police Department, which continues to handle the missing person’s case.
Anyone with information that may assist in the death investigation is encouraged to contact the Naperville Police Investigations Division at (630) 420-4138.
Anyone with information relevant to the missing person case should contact the Berwyn Police Investigations Division at (708) 795-2160.
