Scots Drive Vehicle Fire

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 12:46 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug.12, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a 911 call from a neighbor reporting a vehicle on fire in the driveway of a townhome in the 500 block of Scots Drive. The caller reported the vehicle was in close proximity to the residence. The ECC immediately dispatched a full still alarm assignment consisting of two engines, one ladder truck, one medic unit, and two battalion chiefs. All occupants safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival.

The first suppression company arrived to find a fully involved vehicle fire with flames extending into the home. The incident was quickly upgraded to a general alarm, bringing an additional engine, ladder truck, medic unit, and heavy rescue to the scene. Initial crews completed a 360-degree survey, provided an on-scene report, established command, and initiated fire suppression operations. Multiple handlines were deployed, and a primary search confirmed that no occupants remained inside the structure.

At 1:11 a.m., the fire was declared under control. Crews remained on scene for approximately 30 additional minutes to fully extinguish hot spots. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. Damage is estimated at $110,000. The fire unit was deemed uninhabitable by DuPage County building inspectors. Adjoining units suffered minor damage. At least one adult was displaced due to the fire, and the cause remains under investigation. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
