Structure Fire in the 1500 Block of West Jefferson Avenue

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 11:37 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, Naperville's Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call reporting smoke coming from the balcony of a three-story apartment building in the area of the 1500 Block of W. Jefferson Avenue. ECC immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment to the reported location. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units, and two battalion commanders.

At 11:41 a.m., Naperville Battalion 1 arrived on the scene and reported that the three-story complex had smoke showing from the front of the building. First-arriving companies completed a 360-degree survey of the structure, provided an on-scene report, established command, and began fire operations. Fire Department companies found fire on a second-floor balcony of the complex and began immediate suppression efforts, stretching hose lines to the balcony and working to contain and extinguish the fire. Crews on scene also reported evacuating the building of four occupants of the complex who were home at the time of the fire.

Fire department personnel deployed hose lines to the origin of the fire and were able to fully extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival. Companies remained on the scene for an additional 60 minutes to assist with building maintenance and conduct overhaul operations.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department and the City of Naperville's Transportation and Engineering Department. The Aurora Fire Department provided station coverage during the incident. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department's investigations team. Damage to the home is estimated at $30,000. No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters as a result of this incident.
