'Continuing the Conversation' to Foster Connection Between Naperville Seniors and Young Adults
City and North Central College partnering on April 25 intergenerational event at Nichols Public Library
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — After the success of its first intergenerational event late last year, the City of Naperville has again partnered with students from North Central College for another afternoon of conversation to connect seniors with college students. “Connecting Across the Generations: Continuing the Conversation” will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, in the Community Room at the Nichols Library, 200 W. Jefferson Ave.
The event, part of the Embracing Community: Connecting Neighbors series, provides a chance for seniors and young adults to share experiences and foster meaningful connections, bridging generations and bringing the community closer together.
Participants will work in intergenerational pairs to play “Slingo,” an offshoot of Bingo with a musical format, identifying songs and marking their cards for a chance to win. Rounds will feature music from different eras, with participants rotating partners and engaging in guided conversations/ice breakers. This interactive format is designed to foster conversation and encourage participants to share stories, perspectives and skills.
Those who are retired, as well as those who aren’t yet retired, are welcome to participate in the free event. North Central College students, as well as other young adults from the community, are also encouraged to sign up. All attendees must register at bit.ly/NapervilleGenerations2.
“Connecting Across the Generations: Continuing the Conversation” is part of several inclusive community conversations hosted by the City in partnership with other organizations. The ongoing series includes storytelling, as well as opportunities for the community to participate in intentional, respectful, and ongoing dialogue to deepen understanding while fostering inclusion among generations, cultures, and those with different experiences.
