Naperville Police Arrest Plainfield Convicted Felon Allegedly in Possession of a Loaded Gun

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced today that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Plainfield convicted felon allegedly found in possession a loaded gun. Deion Kidd, 30 (d.o.b. 1/24/1995) of the 21000 block of W. Kinsley Court, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon – Previous Felony Conviction (Class 2 Felony), one count of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Class 4 Felony) and multiple Misdemeanor and petty offenses including Resisting a Police Officer and Transportation or Possession of Open Alcohol by Driver.
 
On Jan. 10, 2026, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Naperville police officers on patrol eastbound on Odyssey Court approaching Illinois Route 59, observed a vehicle in front of them make a right hand turn onto Route 59 and cross over to the far left through lane on Route 59. As the officers pulled next to the vehicle at a stop, they could not see a silhouette of the driver causing the officers to believe that the window tints were below the legal minimum. It is alleged that while waiting to turn eastbound on Diehl Road, the driver of the vehicle made sudden movements to the glovebox, then back to the rear passenger floorboard. Once the vehicle turned on to Diehl Road, officers activated their emergency lights. After coming to a stop, officers approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, later identified as Kidd. While speaking to Kidd, officers observed a clear cup on the floorboard that contained a clear liquid. Based on the sudden movements they observed, officers asked Kidd to exit the vehicle, which he did. It is alleged that when searching the vehicle, officers noted that the cup on the floorboard smelled of alcohol. It is alleged that when officers attempted to open the glovebox, Kidd attempted to pull his arm away and resisted the officer. After placing Kidd in handcuffs, officers opened the glovebox where they allegedly found a loaded Glock 46. It is further alleged that in the trunk, which can be reached from the back seat, officers located a bottle of tequila.

“As a convicted felon, Mr. Kidd has forfeited his right to lawfully possess a firearm,” Berlin said. “Public safety remains the foundation of my office and the allegations that Mr. Kidd unlawfully possessed a loaded gun are extremely concerning and will be met with the full force of the law. I commend the Naperville Police Department for their heads-up efforts on this case that removed a loaded gun from our streets and for their ongoing commitment to public safety. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Sean Kinsella and Jennifer Nielsen for their work in securing charges against Mr. Kidd.”

Kidd’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 2, 2026, in front of Judge Mia McPherson.
