Structure Fire in the 1800 Block of W. Diehl Road

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a 911 call for a report of smoke inside a structure on the 1800 block of W Diehl Road. The Naperville ECC immediately dispatched a Full Still assignment consisting of 2 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 medic unit and 2 battalion commanders. Initial arriving companies completed an incident size-up and noted fire on the roof of the structure. The alarm was immediately upgraded to a General Alarm assignment, adding an engine, a truck, a battalion commander and a heavy rescue. Crews ensured all the occupants had vacated the structure and performed an aggressive offensive fire attack. As the full extent of the fire was determined, the assignment was upgraded to a Box Alarm assignment and later a 2nd Alarm Box. The bulk of the fire had been extinguished at 1 a.m. on July 3. Fire suppression crews continued to overhaul the fire area and extinguish smoldering embers, ensuring the hazard was contained.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, the Naperville Electric Department, Nicor, the Bolingbrook Fire Department, the Wheaton Fire Department, the Warrenville Fire Protection District, the West Chicago Fire Department, the Aurora Fire Department, the Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District and Naperville Emergency Management. Damage to the residence and contents was estimated at $8 million. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The occupancy was deemed uninhabitable due to the extent of fire damage. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters.
