Scott A. Wehrli

Mayor

With decades of experience in business, banking, law enforcement and public service, lifelong Naperville resident Scott Wehrli was first elected to the office of mayor in 2023. A nonstop volunteer since he was 12 years old, Mayor Wehrli is keenly aware of the decisions that make Naperville one of the greatest communities in the country to live, work, raise a family or retire. Mayor Wehrli, who is the 26th person to serve as mayor since Naperville's incorporation in 1890, leads the City with a focus on public safety, economic development and sound fiscal policy, supporting a thriving local economy and providing residents with a safe place to call home.

Adopted into a family with deep roots in Naperville, Mayor Wehrli grew up in his family’s construction businesses and continued working there full-time while pursuing his education at North Central College. He and his wife, Lynda, raised their two children, Sam and Hope, in Naperville.

Mayor Wehrli feels fortunate to have learned from mentors such as former Mayor A. George Pradel, who taught him about servant leadership and the importance of fostering community and inclusiveness. Mayor Wehrli lived out these lessons through his community service, including being appointed at age 24 by former Mayor Sam Macrane as the youngest liquor commission member in Naperville history. Mayor Wehrli led the City’s development of proactive policies to curb liquor-related nightlife crime. He continued to serve on the commission for 29 years, until he became Liquor Control Commissioner upon his election as mayor.

Professionally, Mayor Wehrli is principal owner and chairman of Naperville-based DuKane Precast, which employs more than 200 people. He served for 35 years as a part-time sworn Naperville Park District Police officer, rising to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring from the department in 2025. His dedication to the community previously led him to co-organize a group of business leaders to create community banks that specialize in local lending, an effort that grew through merger into a publicly traded bank ranked among the top 3% nationally. Mayor Wehrli remains an elected director on that board.

Mayor Wehrli also serves on the boards of several nonprofit, economic development and educational organizations, with long tenures on the Naperville Development Partnership board, where he was chairman for two years, and as a trustee of North Central College and Marmion Academy. In 2023, Mayor Wehrli was recognized as an Edgar Fellow by the University of Illinois Institute of Government and Public Affairs, and in 2024, was one of 39 mayors from 11 countries selected to participate in the yearlong Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, biking, fishing and travel.

Mayor Wehrli’s experiences serving the public have taught him the importance of building upon the past to keep Naperville one of the greatest communities in the nation. As he guides the City, Mayor Wehrli provides locally focused leadership, emphasizing policies to enhance Naperville’s exceptional quality of life.

Mayor Wehrli’s current term expires in 2027.
