Time Change Safety

With daylight saving time ending this weekend, the Naperville Police Department would like to recommend a few timely safety tasks to complete as you set your clocks back:

Check your video surveillance system

Walk around your property to make sure all of your cameras are properly secured and have not been tampered with. Confirm proper connections and check the view of each camera to confirm it is covering the desired area, the lens is clean and there is nothing obstructing the view.

Check your batteries

Replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms and ensure they are working properly. Replace any smoke alarm unit that is older than 10 years. Replace any CO alarm unit that is older than 5 years.

Prepare a winter emergency kit for your vehicle

Vehicle emergency kits can be lifesavers if you are stranded in bad weather while driving. They should include items such as warm clothes, blanket, flashlight, batteries, water, non-perishable snacks, shovel, flares, reflective hazard triangle, jumper cables, cat litter or sand for traction, ski hat and gloves.
