In accordance with Illinois EPA standards, the CMOM program is managed based on these major objectives:

Preventing Overflows and Backups. Operations are focused on reaching a goal of zero sewer overflows and preventing sewage from backing up into basements.
Protecting Local Water Quality. Maintenance procedures ensure the system meets federal water standards to prevent pollution from reaching local rivers and streams.
System Reliability. The City maintains the sewer network to handle heavy rain or high usage and continues programs to keep excess rainwater out of the system.
