Legal Assistance and Information

Volunteer attorneys from the DuPage County Bar Association are available for free legal services and representation to lower-income residents of DuPage County to assist with many areas of the law.

A not-for-profit organization that advances the human and civil rights of children and adults with disabilities in Illinois by serving as a legal advocate for people with disabilities, by monitoring institutions and programs serving people with disabilities, by advocating to give people with disabilities greater choices in their lives and by empowering people with disabilities through disability rights training.

Strives to increases compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act through provision of customized training, expert assistance and dissemination of information to targeted audiences.

The Illinois Attorney General’s office, through its Disability Rights Bureau, enforces state and federal laws that protect the rights of people with disabilities to equal access to buildings, housing and general services.

Investigates allegations of abuse or neglect in local programs that are licensed, funded or certified by DHS to provide mental health or developmental disability services. Also investigates deaths that occur in these programs. Local programs include small group homes, developmental training programs, mental health outpatient services and sheltered or vocational workshops.

Created to protect the rights and promote the welfare of persons with disabilities by providing legal representation, investigating complaints of rights violations and providing state guardianship for Illinois’ population with disabilities.

Supports equal access to fair treatment under the law by offering free legal services for low-income persons and those age 60 and under.

Individuals residing in Illinois who have developmental disabilities, mental illness or epilepsy can obtain wallet-sized identification cards through their local Illinois Secretary of State’s driver services facility. The cards are designed to help de-escalate potentially tense encounters with police or other first responders.
