Renewable Energy Grant

Naperville’s Renewable Energy Program enables residential and business electric customers to make voluntary monthly donations through their electric bills to support the City’s investment in renewable energy. Through effective in-house management of the program, the City has been able to save money and is investing it back into the community through Renewable Energy Grants.

As of 4/10/24, Naperville has awarded 73% of available funding for Residential Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy projects. The following programs will end for the year when all funding is allocated. Projects PURCHASED or INSTALLED in the calendar year when all funding is expended will NOT be eligible for future incentives.

IMEA Electric Efficiency Grants

The Illinois Municipal Electric Agency (IMEA) has awarded the City of Naperville a three-year grant to be used for energy improvements.

Year 1 (2019): $253,882 was available for our nonresidential Electric Utility customers as incentives toward completing energy efficiency projects.

Year 2 (2020): $260,882 will be available for nonresidential customer grants for energy improvements.

Year 3 (2021): $260,882 may be available for nonresidential customer grants for energy improvements.

The IMEA Electric Efficiency Program helps IMEA member cities like Naperville and their customers reduce their electric demand and consumption, thereby reducing wholesale power costs. This allows members to shift dollars for other needs and to enhance their economic climate by making utility costs more affordable for established and potential businesses.

Smart Thermostat Rebate Program

The City of Naperville's Electric Utility offers a $50 rebate for residential utility customers when they buy and install any smart thermostat.  There is a limit of 2 rebates per customer.

Air Conditioner Rebate Program 

City of Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who install energy-efficient central air conditioners may be eligible to receive a rebate. Limit one rebate per customer.

City of Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who install replacement energy efficient air-source heat pumps may be eligible to receive a rebate. Limit one rebate per customer.

Energy-Efficient Attic Insulation & Single Pane Window Replacements

Rebates are being offered to City of Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who install energy-efficient attic insulation and/or replace windows.

Furnace Blower Motor and AC Tune-Up

Rebates are being offered to City of Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who upgrade their furnace blower motor and/or have an air conditioning unit tune-up (once every three years). The furnace blower motor rebate is only for those residential customers who replace their old furnace blower motor. It is a rebate of the lower up to $100 and 50% of the customer’s cost. The air conditioning tune-up rebate program is $25 and is available to residential customers once during each three-year period. Residential customers must contribute to the Naperville Renewable Energy Program at the $5 per month or above level for a minimum of five years after award date.

Nicor Energy Efficiency Rebates 

Improvements in the efficiency of your home’s furnace, boiler, water heater or insulation can reduce energy costs, increase savings and help our environment through a reduced carbon footprint. Choosing energy-efficient products is a simple way to help Naperville become a more sustainable community!

The Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program is designed to offer ideas and tools to help Illinois residents and businesses in Nicor's territory save energy and money. The program provides Nicor Gas customers with energy education, resources and financial rebates to make energy use in their home more efficient and affordable. Rebates of between $100 and $400 for air sealing and insulation, and between $25 and $500 for smart thermostats, furnaces, boilers and water heaters are available to qualifying customers. Multi-Family Energy Efficient Rebate Program
