Central Air Conditioner Rebate Program
Stay cool with this incentive on central air conditioning units. Naperville Electric Utility residential customers who install replacement energy-efficient central air conditioners may be eligible to receive an incentive.
APPLY FOR A CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER INCENTIVE
- The program will end when all available funding has been awarded.
- The incentive is based on the AHRI Certificate's Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), which measures the cooling efficiency of a central air conditioner.
- Central air conditioners with a SEER2 of at least 15.2 will receive an $800 incentive. Units must be residentially sized (< 65,000 Btu/hr).
- Completed applications and documentation must be received within 120 days of installation date.
Who's Eligible?
Incentive applicants must be Naperville residential electric customers and the owners or renters of their residence. There is a limit of one incentive per household.
What Do I Need to Do?
- Purchase and have installed a central air conditioner. All replacement makes and models meeting the AHRI Certified SEER ratings are included in the incentive. (www.ahridirectory.org)
- Fill out the incentive application via the link above to our GOVQA platform.
All residential incentive applications must be submitted via the City's GOVQA portal. You will need to create an account and password. If you already have an account you'll be directed to the GOVQA login. Once you login, the specific incentive program application will display.
Once an application has been verified and the application is fully processed, customers will receive a one-time credit on their utility bill within two months. Incentives will be offered until all funding is allocated.

What is SEER and SEER2?
Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, or SEER, measures your air conditioning system’s energy efficiency by calculating the cooling output divided by the amount of electric energy input. This measurement applies to a normal cooling season. The higher the SEER, the greater the energy efficiency of your air conditioning system. The Department of Energy suggests, when replacing a central air conditioning unit, to look for at least a SEER of 15 or SEER2 14.3.
A new air conditioning unit's SEER is determined based on the model of the AC indoor cased coil and furnace with which the new AC unit is installed. The incentive is based on the customer's submittal of the appropriate Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) certificate.
SEER2 rating stands for Season Energy Efficiency Ratio 2. This is the new main energy efficiency ratio introduced by the US Department of Energy in 2023. SEER2 is similar to SEER but requires harsher equipment testing conditions. SEER2 ratings are about 4.5% lower than equivalent SEER ratings.
