Municipal Center Parking Deck Improvements
Pending weather or unforeseen circumstances, construction on improvements to the upper and lower levels of the Municipal Center Parking Deck will begin the week of July 9, 2018. This project is the second phase of a five-year effort to improve the Municipal Center Parking Deck and surrounding areas.
- Project Overview
2018's Municipal Center Parking Deck Improvement Project is the second phase of a five-year effort to improve the Municipal Center Parking Deck and surrounding areas.
The Municipal Center parking deck is almost 30 years old, and no significant updates or construction efforts have taken place since 1997. After two decades, certain components are reaching the end of their useful life. Work includes concrete patching on the upper level, replacing sidewalk, reconstructing planter boxes, replacing hand rails on staircases, replacing trench drains near both drive aisle entrances and re-constructing the ramp and sidewalk on the left side first floor entrance of the building for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility. Patching work on the ceiling of the lower level will also occur.
- Project Updates
August 10, 2018: Starting the morning of Monday, August 13, work on the Municipal Center Parking Deck will move into its second phase. During this period, the Webster Street entrance to the upper level of the parking deck will be closed; the Webster Street entrance to the lower portion of the deck will remain open. The Eagle Street entrance to the upper deck will re-open, and people are encouraged to use this entrance.
Parking on the upper level of the deck will be more limited during this time; please note the Water Street Parking Deck across from the Municipal Center is available for public parking needs. Work on this project is expected to conclude no later than August 31.
Week of July 16: Concrete removal and pothole patching work has begun. The Eagle Street entrance to the upper portion of the deck is closed; the Eagle Street entrance to the lower portion of the deck remains open. People are encouraged to use the Webster Street entrance to the parking deck.
Construction on the deck will occur in two phases. The first phase involves the entrance from Eagle Street and the west half of the upper deck and is anticipated to last until approximately August 6. The second phase involves the entrance from Webster Street and the east half of the upper deck and is anticipated to last until the end of August, when all work will be complete.
All work is weather dependent.
- Impacts to Parking
Construction will take place in phases, with one entrance to each level of the deck being maintained at all times. No more than half of the parking spaces on the upper level of the deck will be removed from service at any one time. Although accessible parking spaces may need to be temporarily relocated, the same number of spaces will be maintained, with a goal of keeping these spaces on the upper level of the deck.
Although all efforts will be made to keep as many parking spaces available as possible during construction, visitors to the Municipal Center are reminded they can utilize the publicly available parking spaces in the Water Street Parking Deck across from the Municipal Center at any time. Motorists accessing the deck are asked to please follow all traffic control devices that will be put in place.
