Water Main Replacement Projects
In support of the City’s priority to provide utility services that are reliable and safe, Naperville's Water and Wastewater Utility is working to replace aging water mains.
Replacing aging water mains reduces the number of water main breaks, increases water flow and water service reliability, lowers maintenance costs and extends the life of the system.
Ogden and Washington Water Main Replacement - Phase 1
Project Location: Ogden between Washington and Wright, and Washington between Ogden and Bauer.
Project Details: The primary purpose of the project is to replace the aging water main along Ogden Avenue and Washington Street. The existing water main is a cast iron pipe installed in the 1950s and 1960s and has reached the end of its useful life. It will be replaced and upsized to a 16” pipe in accordance with City standards. Work will also include the replacement of the water valves, hydrants and services along the length of the water main. Schedule and Progress: (Updated April 17, 2026) Work is anticipated to resume in the spring of 2026. Motorists can expect to see ongoing lane closures and traffic pattern changes once the work progresses.
Crews will generally work from Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasionally, it may be necessary for the work to continue beyond 3:30 p.m. Crews are usually off the site by 5 p.m.
Ogden Water Main Replacement - Phase 2
Project Location: Ogden between Washington and Naper North High School.

This phase will install a new 16-inch water main in accordance with City standards to continue the improvements initiated in Phase 1 and enhance system reliability. Work will also include the replacement of the water valves, hydrants and services along the length of the water main. View a map of the impacted area.

Saybrook Water Main Improvements
Project Details: (Updated April 17, 2026) During Phase I of this project, water mains were replaced on 11th Avenue. In Phase II, the City started replacing 8,200 feet of aging cast iron water main on the following streets: 14th Avenue, Bayberry Lane, East 12th Avenue, Greenbriar Court, Loomis Street, Tanglewood Lane and Wright Street.
During the current phase (Phase III), water mains in the subdivision will continue to be replaced and upsized to an 8-inch or 12-inch ductile iron pipe on Barley Avenue, Blue Grass Court, Case Street, East 12th Avenue, Loomis Street, Millet Street, North Brainard Street, North Sleight Street, North Suffolk Street, North Wright Street and Trefoil Court. Ductile iron is more cost-efficient and prolongs the life of the water system. View a map of the impacted area.
Schedule and Progress: (Updated April 17, 2026) Pending weather and unforeseen circumstances, Phase III is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 20, and continue through the end of October.

- Project Impacts
-
Please note that construction of this type involves some level of inconvenience to residents and visitors. We will do our best to minimize this impact.
Work Zone: Every effort will be made to keep streets accessible; however, residents should expect temporary delays when moving through the impacted area. While intermittent lane and intersection closures are expected, streets should be fully accessible by the end of the workday.
Driveways: The new water main will be installed under the roadway pavement. Aside from temporary disruptions related to installation and water service connections, driveways will be accessible. Any trenches across driveways will be filled with stone and made accessible by the end of the workday or sooner.
- Impacts to Residential Water Service
-
Except for emergencies, water mains should always remain in service. Intermittent disruptions to water service are possible during construction. Crews will make every effort to minimize the downtime and proactively notify of any planned shutdowns 48 hours in advance.
Later in the project, after the new water mains are installed, individual water service disruptions will be limited to a single shut-down for 30 minutes to allow for the transfer of the residential water service from the old main onto the new main. Impacted residents will be notified in advance.
During service transfers there is potential of sediment being disturbed into the water. Your water may briefly experience some discoloration. If this occurs, please run your faucets for a few minutes and clean out any aerators you may have. This should resolve any discolorations you may experience.
