East Highland Sanitary Sewer Replacement

Naperville's Water and Wastewater Utility is replacing aging sanitary sewers in the East Highlands area. This project is a necessary infrastructure upgrade to improve drainage and system reliability, helping to prevent future sanitary sewer backups.

Project Location

East Hillside Road, Melody Lane, Willow Road, Maple Lane, and Golden Larch Court.

Scope of Work

This project includes replacing approximately 3,500 linear feet of older clay sewer pipe installed in the 1960s with new PVC 8-inch pipe. The existing sewer has reached the end of its useful life and has insufficient slope, which slows drainage. The new pipe will improve how wastewater flows through the system.

Schedule and Progress

(Updated April 24, 2026) Construction is scheduled to begin in late April 2026.

Crews will generally work from Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On occasion, it may be necessary for work to extend beyond these hours or occur on Saturdays.

Traffic and Access

Residents should expect temporary delays when navigating through the area. While intermittent lane and intersection closures are expected during active construction, streets will be accessible by the end of each workday.

Impacts & Restoration

The installation of the new sanitary sewer occurs primarily under the roadway pavement. However, sanitary service connections may require temporary, localized excavation in driveways or yards.

  • Driveways: If a trench across a driveway is required for a service connection, the contractor will fill the area with stone for accessibility. Driveway disruptions for these connections are expected to be limited to a maximum of four hours.
  • Restoration:  All disturbed areas, including lawns and driveways, will be restored as close as possible to their original condition after construction is complete.
Utility Service

Sanitary sewer service is expected to remain in operation throughout the project. In the event of a planned temporary disruption (e.g., when individual service lines are transferred to the new sewer) residents will be notified at least 48 hours in advance via a door hanger. These individual service transfers will be limited to a single shutdown lasting approximately one hour.
