Naperville Hydrant Painting Program
The City of Naperville is continuing its multi-year fire hydrant painting program to help maintain this important public safety infrastructure.
Beginning in 2025, the City started Phase 1 of repainting hydrants throughout the community. This annual project is expected to continue each summer through 2035, pending weather or unforeseen circumstances.
2026 Project Schedule
The current phase begins Monday, May 18, 2026, and is expected to continue through the end of June, weather permitting.
2026 Affected Areas
Work is scheduled in the following water sections: D04, D05, L32, N35, W05, W16 and W21. View the map here.
Why Hydrants Are Painted
Routine painting helps ensure fire hydrants remain visible, meet safety standards and are protected from corrosion.
What Residents Should Know
During the project, hydrants may appear in different colors depending on their stage in the painting process:
Silver: bare metal
Gray: primer
Orange: final color
Residents are asked to avoid parking near hydrants, not touch freshly painted hydrants and leave “Wet Paint” signs in place. The contractor will remove signs when work is complete.
