Prescription Drug Drop Box Program

The public may safely and anonymously dispose of unused/expired prescription or over-the-counter medication through the City's Prescription Drug Drop Box Program. No needles, syringes, liquids, inhalers, creams, ointments or lotions are accepted. All medications should be removed from their original packaging/containers and placed in a zip-lock style bag.

Every Naperville fire station has a sealed drop box located outside of the building accessible to the public 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

There is also a sealed drop box in the Naperville Police Department lobby, accessible to the public from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Beginning Nov. 1, 2025, the public can also pick up a secure prepaid, self-addressed envelope from their local fire station to safely mail in expired or unused prescription medications to an EPA-approved disposal facility.

The mail-back envelopes are provided and received by Inmar Intelligence, an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) partner facilitating Illinois’s Drug Take-Back Act Program, giving every Illinoisan free access to prescription drug disposal.

To participate, place medications (removed from their original containers) into the secure envelope, seal it and drop it in the mail. The program accepts both prescription and over-the-counter pills. Needles, syringes, liquids, inhalers, creams, ointments and lotions are not accepted.
