Permits and Licenses

Amplifier Permit

Any person or organization desiring to operate a loudspeaker or amplifier in a public street or public place must apply for and be issued an amplifier permit by the Community Services Department. 

Block Party Permit

Any person or organization wishing to hold a block party must first apply for and be issued a license by the Community Services Department. 

Commercial Development Permit

The City of Naperville requires commercial entities that intend to either construct new developments or add on to existing structures to complete an application packet. 

Deck, Patio, and Other Exterior Residential Improvements Permits

The City of Naperville requires that all decks, patios, and open porches added to a residential structure, or the installation of other secondary structures , have an issued permit. 

Development Petition and Application

Concept meetings are the first step in the development review process and provide an opportunity for City staff and external customers to discuss potential development proposals prior to submittal. 

Driveway Permit

Before installing a new driveway, the City of Naperville requires property owners to complete and submit a Driveway Permit application. 

Electrical and Electrical Low Voltage Permit

A permit is required prior to beginning any electrical work within the City of Naperville's boundaries. 

Electrical Contractor Registration

The City of Naperville requires electricians that are working in Naperville to be registered as an Electrical Contractor with the city through the Community Services Department.  

Elevator Permit

The City of Naperville requires any commercial entity wishing to install an elevator in their premises to complete and submit an application.  

Fence Permit

Before a resident or business can build a fence on their property, the requirements on this page must be met and an application completed. 

Fire Alarm Systems

The Naperville Fire Department is the authority having jurisdiction for the issuance of fire alarm permits and acceptance testing and inspection of Fire Alarm Systems.  

Fire Suppression Systems

The Naperville Fire Department is the authority having jurisdiction for permit issuance and acceptance testing and inspections of Fire Protection Systems.  

Fuel Tank Permits

A permit is required for the installation of any aboveground or underground storage tanks. 

Generator Permit

The City of Naperville requires that all generators added to a residential structure have an issued building permit prior to beginning any construction.  

Hardship Sales Permit

The State of Illinois requires businesses that want to conduct hardship sales to file for a permit to do so.  

Lawn Sprinklers/RPZ Backflow Preventer Permit

The City of Naperville, in compliance with State of Illinois law, requires that an RPZ permit is obtained whenever an irrigation system is installed. 

Local Liquor Law Essentials Training

All establishments that hold a liquor license must require certain employees to receive Naperville’s local liquor law essentials training within 15 days of beginning employment. 

Massage Establishment Permit

Massage establishments are required to obtain a Massage Establishment Permit issued by the City of Naperville in order to operate in the city. 

Open Burning Permits

Open burning is prohibited within the city limits of Naperville without a permit. 

Person with Disabilities Parking Card

Persons with disabilities who live in or work for businesses within the City of Naperville can apply for a Person with Disabilities Parking Card.
